Collision at Delhi Airport: SpiceJet and Akasa Air Aircraft Involved in Ground Mishap

NEW DELHI: A significant ground collision occurred at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday, involving a SpiceJet aircraft that was taxiing and a stationary Akasa Air plane. The incident has raised concerns about ground safety protocols at one of India's busiest airports.
The collision took place on the taxiway, where the right winglet of the SpiceJet B737-700 aircraft made contact with the left-hand horizontal stabiliser of the Akasa Air plane. Both aircraft sustained damage, prompting immediate grounding for thorough inspections by aviation authorities.
According to a SpiceJet spokesperson, the incident happened on April 16, and the aircraft involved was in the process of taxiing when the collision occurred. The SpiceJet plane has since been secured in Delhi for a detailed examination to assess the extent of the damage.
In a statement, Akasa Air confirmed that its aircraft, which was operating flight QP 1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad, was stationary at the time of the incident. Following the collision, the Akasa Air plane was safely returned to the bay, and all passengers and crew were disembarked without any injuries reported. An Akasa Air spokesperson stated, "Our ground teams are making alternative arrangements to ensure that passengers reach Hyderabad at the earliest."
